Sinaia is a good place for a holiday with children: the journey is short, the castles look like something out of a fairy tale and the mountains are a cable-car ride away. At Hublou Home, children of all ages are welcome. Here is what I recommend, in Sinaia and nearby.
In Sinaia
- Peleș and Pelișor castles. Children under 7 go free. Inside there is no running and no eating, and once you leave you cannot go back in, so pick a morning slot, when the little ones are rested.
- The cable car and gondola to Cota 2000. For children, the ride up is already an adventure. It is colder up there than in town, even in summer.
- The alpine coaster. More than 2 km of track through the forest, from Cota 1400; children under 8 ride free with an adult.
- Casino Sinaia and Dimitrie Ghica Park. The Casino’s guided tour is designed with families in mind, and the park is good for a quiet walk before dinner.
Nearby
- Cantacuzino Castle, Bușteni (about 8 km). As well as the castle, it has a LEGO mini-museum and a secret room. Children under 5 go free.
- Urlătoarea Waterfall, Bușteni. A 3.4 km marked trail, easy to moderate, good for children who already walk well.
- The summer coaster in Predeal (about 20 km). An 822 m track; each sled takes one adult with a child up to 12.
- Brașov Zoo and Parc Aventura Brașov (about 40 km). They face each other. At the zoo, children up to 6 go free; the adventure park has trails for children from age 4.
- Dino Parc Râșnov (about 40 km). 125 life-size dinosaurs.
- Ialomița Cave. It is only 5–6 °C inside, so bring jackets for the children too. Pre-schoolers go free.
- Satul Spiridușilor (Elves’ Village), Predeal. A Christmas village, open over the winter holidays.
At the villa
Apartments 1, 2, 3 and 5 have a separate bedroom and a living room with a sofa bed, for up to four people, so children can sleep apart from their parents. The garden has loungers, a gazebo and footballs and basketballs. Apartment 1 has a fully equipped kitchen, and the others have a kitchenette, good for the children’s meals.
Good to know
- By train, the journey from Bucharest takes about an hour and a half, often more relaxed with children than weekend traffic on the DN1.
- Children up to 14 don’t pay the Bucegi Natural Park visitor fee.
- Opening hours change with the season; check them before you set off.
